You know when you can feel yourself grinning like an idiot?
Yeah, well lucky for me, I was in my living room so I just went ahead and kept beaming. It snowed again here in Vermont, like a lot, so I embraced the feeling of being stuck inside on a Saturday and busied myself with being cozy, damnit.
But then I faltered slightly, wondering why it mattered—grinning like an idiot.
I got caught trying to figure out if I'd have suppressed the amusement on my face if I'd been in public. I quickly put a pin in that, though, because while it's definitely worth coming back to, I'd been reading a new piece in Strange Pilgrims called Life: A Review by Charlie Ericson and really wanted to keep going.
By the time I finished, I was convinced I'd have nothing to write about today. The author, Charlie, had said it all already. It wasn't anything I hadn't heard before, but the way he'd said made it feel extremely resonant. What he wrote was so original; so rhythmic and heartfelt, personal and witty. I loved it.
And with the snow still falling outside, I sat on the couch grinning like an idiot, wishing I'd written it.
