Integrated Just Means Complex

Organizing a life.

I used to do the post-it notes thing but it always messed me up.

It felt good to write things down. Seeing a few post-its here and there even added a layer of satisfaction; as if I'd curbed the problem. But it wouldn't take long before the pile of post-its became this whole other monstrous thing to manage.

Switching to a single notebook made such a sizable difference.

I used to use the Bullet Journal method for a bit. It's helpful—super duper simple. Which is kind of the whole point... Eventually, I'd wanted a bit more customization than just daily tasks and status marks.

Isobel made me a leather-bound notebook last Christmas that has refillable inserts (I know, right??!). I use three to divide things into sections:

  • Reminders
  • Resources
  • Rambles

That's how I wrangle daily tasks, books or links to things I want to remember, and thoughts or prompts I want to pull at in my journal or in longer piece of writing.

For anyone interested, I cobbled this custom combination together with bits and pieces from Bullet Journaling (Ryder Carroll), The Finisher System (Javier Lorie), and Cal Newport’s Core Systems approach to quarterly planning.

That and my Google Calendar help me keep things somewhat organized. I say "somewhat" a little bit facetiously... I can be kind of a nerd about it. Especially this time of year as I'm getting ready for 2026.
