In Plain Sight

Balancing constraints and freedom.

Something about seeing a collection of letters all jumbled together makes me want to solve the puzzle. 

Today, Isobel said I work well with constraints. At first I had to think about it—I was even tempted to disagree. I still don't know why... she's completely right. Sometimes having too many options is what feels suffocating while having defined parameters to work with feels completely freeing. I actually love when that's the case because I get to scheme up combinations and MacGyver things together in unlikely but effective pairings.

I've heard this difference described as being an "architect" or an "archaeologist", where architect refers to building things from scratch while archaeologists focus on digging to discover what's hidden in plain sight.

This whole thought spiral came up because Isobel gifted me a magnet poetry kit! And when your partner gives you a stack of words to write poems with… you do it. So I started by picking a word at random.

Today, that word was “picture.”
