Productivity feels a bit like pushing peas around on your plate. You might be making space, or just making it look like it.
Today's one of those Mondays that really feels like a Monday for me. Sitting at my desk, the quiet's mocking me by just simply... existing. And it's being quite loud about it, too. So, of course, I'm focused on that rather than the task list in front of me.
The steam twirls off of my coffee mug and my mind starts to wander. I'm picturing Larry David. Yes, the guy from Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm fame. In my head, I see Larry glancing around, shoulders shrugged, wearing an expression that says something like "meh." Then he raises his arms a bit like he's making fun of jazz hands, leans in and mumbles, "let's call it a Sunday... today's no good as a Monday. I think people see that. Right? It's Sunday again."
Makes sense to me.
Even better, that daydream helped me start getting shit done. Staring at my laptop screen, I felt myself shift into a "ok, what's next?" mindset. This is when things go from shuffling your peas around to knocking them back. The only way to actually make them go away is by eating them. Or, I guess you could scrape them off your plate and pretend they're not there. And that's ok.
But the choice is always yours: eat or delete.
Oh, and if you don't like peas, speak up next time.
