It was an accident.
Well, sort of... maybe it's more accurate to say it was an unplanned thing.
I'm sitting in my truck, in the dark, after go-go-going all day. Once I had the Uhaul trailer, I backed that bad boy down the driveway, plopped it right next to the back door by the basement, and loaded until it was full. Boxes, bins, shelves, chairs, backcountry gear, snow tires—all stuff that's been hanging out there in storage, bound for the storage unit to keep on keeping on (but, ya know, over there instead). I actually don't mind the lifting-things-up-and-putting-them-down part... especially when it's furniture or stuff that's already in "transport mode." It's the sorting, packing, and stacking of stuff that will then need to be unstacked, unpacked, and resorted that makes me itch.
Maybe that's why I started with the easy shit.
There's still the whole upstairs to tackle.
The drive wasn't so bad, though. A little over an hour, maybe; give or take. The truck's off and I'm still just sitting here. It's cold, but I left each and every one of my jackets back home. Whoops. Or, well, back at my old "home."
In my early twenties, I moved a lot. Like, pretty much every year from my sophomore year of college until I was like, 27. But there was a two-year stretch in there where I was in the same place with the same roommates, which was actually really nice. Until last year, though, I'd been in the same place for a while. Many years, in fact. Then I moved here. Well, there. And now here. And I'm reminded of just how much I hate moving. I really didn't think I'd be doing it again for a while. And definitely not this soon...
Looking up through my windshield, with the moon seeping through the trees, I exhale but it doesn't feel like enough. If there's more air in there, I don't know how to get it out. Maybe it's trapped somewhere in my back? Or between my shoulder blades?
Fuck.
I'm... I'm tired.
Ugh, and I will be tomorrow, too.
Hell, I'm doing this allllll week.
Ok, I'm not writing tonight.
Maybe I'll just take the week off from it.
* * *
Welp, I did. I needed it. I wrote some but published none.
It's, uh, been a very back-and-forth kind of week.
But it's good to be back.
onward.
